Lindencroft Case Manager Intern

Experience an opportunity to learn about collaboration in a youth’s life, and working together to provide the best treatment possible for each individual adolescent.

Lindencroft, a program of Community Care Services is a 24-hour group home which serves adolescent females through a comprehensive network of services located in Berkley, Massachusetts.  It is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care.  The program provides a comprehensive array of clinically sound and sophisticated services designed to serve DSS female service recipients and their families.  Service recipients usually have a history of self-destructive behaviors, physical abuse/victimization and/or outward aggression, running away, eating disorders, sexual victimization and/or perpetration, school truancy/phobia, academic and peer group failures and frequent changes in family structure.

Responsibilities and Educational Opportunities

• Learn Case Management techniques working with at-risk female adolescents.
• Observe/attend scheduled meetings for service recipients(intake, treatment, discharge etc.).
• Attend outreach meetings with service recipients and their families in the community.
• Assist in researching community resources for youth and their families.
• Assist with creating and maintaining program files.
• Opportunities to develop and present psychoeducational life skills and independent skill building groups to service recipients.  Topics may include cooking, hygiene, life skills, cleaning, social skills, problem solving, respect, relationships, stereotypes, activism, fitness, conflict resolution, poetry, health, yoga, meditation, career/college planning, etc.
• Opportunity to plan and co-lead therapeutic and expressive arts therapy groups.
• Conduct peer mediation with service recipients.
• Learn conflict management and de-escalation techniques working in the milieu.
• Opportunity to assist in case management responsibilities such as attending treatment meetings, discharges, foster care reviews, family team meetings, assist in intakes, etc.
• Assist case manager in maintaining files and program records.
• Support service recipients with their homework and acquiring independent living skills (how to use public transportation, fill out a job application, create a budget, etc.)
• Opportunities to learn basic office skills, such as filing, photocopying, faxing, answering telephones, maintaining inventory, etc.
• Assist staff with weekly PAYA group (Preparing Adolescents for Young Adulthood).

Qualifications: Interns should have an interest in – and sensitivity toward - the population that this program serves.  Community Care Services requires a Criminal Offender Record Investigation (CORI) which may take 2 weeks for some programs. Other requirements include Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training, as well as tuberculosis screening at some programs. We will arrange for completion of all your requirements.
